Has anyone ever heard of Lake Peigneur. In 1980, an oil company was mining and they drilled into an underground salt mine. The entire lake emptied in about 3 hours, then eventually filled back up. Here's a link:

Yeah, you go from open water diving to wreck diving to cave diving in only minutes.... Wait, that actually sounds kinda cool.

But Jason , what if you couldn't fit thru the hole? A permanent plug , so to speak?
