If you add events on the forum calendar, it will allow you to create a post in that forum announcing the event.
Just click on the day of the calendar (number (date) is the link). Then choose a title and location for the post and enter the info. You'll then be promted to make a forum post regarding the event you just added to the calendar.
The calendar event will then be linked to the thread for more info on it.
