I used picassa 2. A free down load and a nice program.
In picassa there is a tab to "export" I chose the picture. Picassa exported it to a new file. Compressing it along the way. It did not touch the original. Just made a compressed copy. For instance, the picture I posted is on my HD at 838KB.
Picassa compressed it to 38kb
Took me a while to figure it out but it worked.
