Here is an AP report on the fatal incident at Wazee Sunday the 3rd.

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (AP) — A Minnesota man who was taking scuba-diving lessons in western Wisconsin has died in what authorities believe was an accident.

A Minneapolis Star Tribune report ( ) says the victim was identified Monday as Jeffrey Carstensen, a 50-year-old from Maple Grove.

Jackson County authorities say Carstensen was taking lessons Sunday about noon in Wazee Lake, a former iron-mine pit near Black River Falls. Rescue officials were called to the area for a medical emergency involving Carstensen, who was with a dive instructor.

Sheriff Duane Waldera says rescue officials tried to resuscitate Carstensen but he was pronounced dead at a hospital. Autopsy results are pending.

Wazee is Wisconsin's deepest inland lake, with a maximum depth of 355 feet. Waldera says it's popular among divers because of its depth.
