1000 Foot Dive - Chris - 04-12-2002

Wow, I just read that the 1000 foot berrier was broken by a diver. I can't imagine what that must have been like and on top of that, all the planning that must have been involved.

The french went to 1643 feet in 1977 according to my trusty US Navy Dive Manual. There are also mentions of other dives at well past 1000 feet. Commercial divers have been going down that far for a while.

Mike

Re: 1000 Foot Dive - Derrick - 04-17-2002

The interesting thing about the 1000 foot record was that it was for a nonsaturated dive using scuba with in-water decompression. The 1977 dive was a saturated dive not using scuba and using out of water decompression. I think it may have been from a submarine?

Derrick
