First cold dive....supplies advice. - yelloduc - 07-08-2009

I've decided that I'm not getting in enough warm water diving, so I'm going to start diving locally. I plan on going up to Crosby this weekend.

I'm looking for some advice on what to bring. I'm assuming I'll need bug spray, water, a tent......

I'm renting a 7mm and a hooded vest, 2 tanks, weights, and I will buy a pair of gloves before I leave. I'm bringing two sets of the following: regs, computers, tank lights, lights, fins, SMB, mask.....basically everything will be redundant.

What other items should I consider bringing?

Towel, tarp, sunscreen, camp chair, warm jacket and hat of some sort!  Toilet paper....

I use eardrops after diving.  Made from rubbing alcohol and white vinegar, equal parts of each.  Drip into ear and leave there for a minute or two.  Keeps you from getting swimmers ear and other nasty stuff!  Downside is it makes you smell like a drunken pickle!  ;D

I hadn't thought about the ear drops! Thanks! Wink

And I forgot to mention dive gear repair kit and camp repair (duct tape!!)  Setting up tents in the mine pit area is like trying to hammer nails into a gravel road.  Plastic tent pegs won't cut it!!!

Sounds like I should also bring a jackhammer ;D

No Jack...Just the hammer!  It's not solid rock, just hard to find the spaces in between them.  Plastic pegs will bend or break.  Metal pegs will sometimes bend, but may just not go in if you are on top of a rock!

Or just put a big rock on a tent peg laying on the ground,or use bags of rocks for corners.Works in the Boundary Waters.

Some spouses just don't get it!!  Everyone has certain personal interests, or addictions....We're not doing drugs, wasting our lives dumping money at a casino, drinking ourselves into an early grave....We Dive!  ;D
