Terms of Service - ScubaAl - 01-12-2010

Could anyone direct me to where I might find the rules for posting on MNscuba? I'm sure when I signed up year ago I agreed to TOS(terms of service).
I have seen post deleted for what seems to Me no good reason. Hard to have an exchange of thoughts and ideas if they keep disappearing.

Thanks, Al

Re: Terms of Service - ScubaAl - 01-13-2010

Looking forward to the show. I guess if that's the only option, that's what I'll have to do. There seems (to me) a lot of over moderation recently here, on TDS and RBW. Maybe its something in the water.
For "me" its a bit off putting when I see post removed that seem at least on the surface, to only put out a different opinion or ask a simple question. But then its not my sandbox so I really have no say.

Thanks,Al

I haven't been around long, but I think there's some history going on.  I've only noticed a couple things moderated and always seems to be the same thing.  There really doesn't seem to be a lot of moderating unless I'm missing something.

The terms of service are presented during the account registration process (shown below).  You bring up a good point that we should make the TOS more visible on the site.

We rarely moderate postings but it does happen every 6 mos or so.  Sometimes the reason is due to flagrant personal attacks and other times the reason isn't so obvious.  As administrators we know many of the posters personally and we know the behind-the-scenes stories, personal relationships, and conflicts.  So oftentimes a post that appears innocent is really someone trying to bait another member.  Sometimes we don't understand the hidden meaning in a post and we rely on members to report the post and explain the meaning to us.  We fully support the conflict of ideas and opinion. But when that conflict turns personal it is removed.

I can't say our moderation track record is perfect.  But hopefully we've got things right more often than wrong.

Re: Terms of Service - flyboy65 - 01-13-2010

I haven't posted on here for quite some time...I just "lurk" nowadays.  But, I have been a member of a Blazer forum, and a Dachshund forum, and, unfortunately, there was bickering going on there, as well as here.  I sometimes find it a sad state of affairs that the bonds that tie "us" together, just cannot stop the negative comments and dialogue amongst us.  I really do appreciate this forum, for it's information, and just plain entertainment.  It is really too bad it must be "monitored", but that's the way it goes, I guess.  I'm glad I found this site, and I'm very surprised at myself at how much I have delved into the diving world.  Great people, great diving, and great stories...

Re: Terms of Service - Mr.Pitbull - 01-13-2010

For what it is worth, I feel that Jason and Lonnie do a pretty good job handling all the different issues and technical aspects with this board. Many of the other boards out there have so much good old boy b.s. that the "outer circle" dares not post for fear of being belittled or outright called a fool. There seems to be many folks that used to post regularly that now simply "lurk" in the background for one reason or another.  I will not even begin to guess how many "outside"  quarrels and other unknown "behind-the-scenes" stories are going on that so are often eluded to. I am sure way more than any regular (typical) reader of this forum would believe.  There are not many "thank yous" in a moderator's world, but I think the ones on this board keep things pretty professional and fair for the masses.  Just my 2 cents.
