Costa Concordia wreck - DetectorGuy - 01-16-2012

I just heard that this wreck is settling a bit, and some think it may slip off a ledge into 100' deep water (some articles claim the ledge drops to 300'). A couple from White Bear Lake, MN are among the missing from this wreck. Here is a link to the story:

Wow!  That would be an awesome ship wreck to dive if all submerged, you would have to have a long rope spool so you can find your way back!

I find the story of this wreck very interesting, and sad at the same time. Without disrespect to the families of the dead and missing from this wreck, I would think that while the recovery divers are searching for bodies, another crew could be securing the wreck to shore. In my opinion, that ship is one storm away from becoming a very deep artificial reef. Recovering the bodies and pumping 500,000 gallons of diesel fuel out of her at the surface will not be easy, but much harder at 400'. The pumping of the fuel alone could be enough to shift the ship off its perch. Hopefully the families get closure, and the divers stay safe during this senseless tragedy.
