Re: TRINITY'S 3rd annual 2012/2013 icing challenge
Great day Icing! 3 cars went thru in last few days on Tonka, all trying to drive thru channels! the channels open up and refreeze all winter long. sherif /Water patrol(also fellow divers), came out and greeted us, day started warm and sunny with nice clear water bright, ended with 50mph gusting wind with Ice crystals sandblasting our faces. For the first time i got an emergency bail out signal from the surface! I couldnt' believe it! i got up to find that some of our gear was gone! blown so far down the lake we could not see it! a bucket full of gloves candie bars misc dive gear etc. and more importantly a top secret map with too many important GPS sites that really doesn't need to be floating in never never land.also of highest interest an priority is several very interesting musky stories i heard from several random people. first story i will share. patrol was near Maynard's docks and saw a big 4ft+ musky swim by several times. looked kinda beat up. then it swam by again, and as they watched it, the fish came up under a full adult duck and grabbed it T-bone style. officer and a local watched as the fish swam by with a duck in its mouth!...second story is of bigger fish yet. ....but that story is under top secret research so cant share that one yet...Smile stef

Popo, if I didn't see that pic being taken, I'd say you photoshopped yourself into it.  :-*

This Sat.  planning on going back to Tonka, we'll decide on the day, few different plans. The second dive Sat. will be my 100th jump thru the ice in 3.5 years, look forward to seeing you guys, we'll bring the croc-pot, may even have a surprise guest!         Trinity

I would have to say that the vis was 10, 15 at the most.

I found an old Gin bottle from London, England in the hole I dove.  That is when the Water Patrol came to visit us.

Re: TRINITY'S 3rd annual 2012/2013 icing challenge
Anybody have any good GPS coordinates for Mille Lacs? I would like to have a couple of good confirmed spots to dive. some good structure or even shipwrecks. Getting to them won't be a problem, I have a new v plow on my truck and can blaze a trail almost anywhere if snow becomes an issue.  ;D I wouldn't be opposed to a multi location Saturday and Sunday dive.

Re: TRINITY'S 3rd annual 2012/2013 icing challenge

Hey guys I was responding to Nate and (I'm sure his chit Karma, caused) my phone to let out its magic smoke as it was plugged into the charger, no doubt in an effort to hold back the G-men. It smells like burning electrical, and I know thats normally not a good sign. So I need you guys to let me know where the jump is tomorrow, but let me know here, or I wont be there.          Trinity

Re: TRINITY'S 3rd annual 2012/2013 icing challenge

I haven't done a ton of research on Mille Lacs but at first glance, I would say Isle Bay looks good from the contour maps... There is a 36' deep trough that runs NW by SE that is not very wide. It drops from 15' deep to 30' deep within 30' lineal feet along the SW side of this trough for quite a ways. This should be all large boulders in the area per the reports, but nothing confirmed.
Here are coordinates to some possible dive holes 301' from each other that are each centered on the 15' deep "top of the trough" from the Northern most to the Southern most:
N46 08.922' W93 28.782'
N46 08.884' W93 28.735'
N46 08.845' W93 28.690'
N46 08.814' W93 28.636'
N46 08.773' W93 28.594'

There is another nice little submerged peninsula across this narrow trench that is exactly 300' from the last coord shown above. This coord is also at the 15' deep mark:
N46 08.753' W93 28.530'

This is as far south on Mille Lacs as it gets for any "good structure". Generally the South half of Mille Lacs is rocky. The NE quarter of Mille Lacs is sandy gravel, and the NW quarter is mud. There is another area that somewhat interests me on the East side nearer to the North end of the lake called Agate Reef near Agate Reef Resort. This one is a 1.15 mile long narrow submerged reef that runs from N46 17.815' W93 32.486' at the NE end (closest to land) to N46 17.028' W93 33.349' at the SW end of the reef. This is a large, long area that would support many divers in many holes over many days but the possibility of good structure is less promising as the rocks should be much smaller up here than the Isle area.
