Ice Dives - Winter 2003/2004
Do any dive shops or clubs plan to ice dive this winter season? If so, when?

I'm already Ice Diver Certified, but want to do more ice dives. And I help set up and breakdown camp - I don't dive & ditch. Let me know. Thanks ~ Mark

Hey Mark,

Scuba Dive & Travel is doing some ice diving this winter out at Square Lake.
There are 2 dates: Feb 21st & 22nd, and also March 6 & 7th.

If you're already certified it's only $15. We make a big BBQ for everyone & have a good ol' time!

Stop in & sign up if you're interested.

Wazee sports has a couple of ice dive socials every year as well. $10 on top the the regular dive fee's @ Wazee...but...you get the hole cut for you and ropes run, and they have warm food and drinks on the ice for you. Not a bad way to spend a day.

Yep, it's still on.

Remember to call and let him know that you are going so they can plan food and all that stuff - 715-284-5181.

This is the info that I got in an email from the shop:

Ice Diving Social:
Feb. 7th and March 6th
Starting at 10am both days
Come out and join us for a day of Ice Diving.
Wazee Lake offers the clearest ice diving experience you could ever
imagine, with the visibility 70' -100'.
For $10. per diver and $5. for non diver we will supply hot drinks and
hot food for the event. (this does not include the dive fee)
We will supply the ropes and harnesses and cut the holes.
Pre register to assure we have enough food.
The weather needs to be 20 degrees and warmer.

Hope to see you out there - should be some great diving!

Lk. Mtka. Ice Dive Report: Dove February 7th & 8th. Visibility was next to none . . . so the 'wreck' diving was more like blind muck diving. Lots of suspended particulate matter. Lots of snow cover as well, so not much ambient lighting. Still, there is something about being under tons of ice, cruising around. Also, four more divers are now ice diver certified!

I got three dives in - and I love ice diving - so I'll rate them a "9" ;D

I know, I know - like I said, I like ice diving. It was fun to wallow in the muck 'looking' for the wreck. I also like playing with the trapped air - reminds me of mercury, all silvery-like.

The top side event was fun as well. Good weather Sat. (I even changed outside), good company, etc. Good thing we all had 4-wheel drive vehicles - we had to trailblaze out to the dive site.

If I could, I'd dive every wintry weekend! 8)

Where did the trapped air come from? Wink

Let's see, going by old posts I believe Mark dives a Dolphin SCR doesn't he? If so there's the answer. Even if he were diving a CCR you'd get some trapped air under the ice from doing an O2 flush wouldn't you? Wink
