Always up for a rest stop, especially when beer is involved :-)
That water is going to be cold, unless the wind has changed then it COULD warm up by 10-15 degrees, still cold though.
I think the best bet would be to take a bearing on the Buoy and then dive as early as possible to get to it then follow it down, but it is personal preference. I find swimming on the surface to be tiresome and tedious.
M~
A bad day of diving is still better than a good day at the office............
Hmm...yeah, I don't know about that, if there is a short cut route heading west from Split Rock to Gilbert maybe but according to mapquest they show driving all the way back down to duluth and then heading back up to Gilbert. That makes it a 100+ mile trip which kinda sucks. Of course mapquest has been known for some less than optimal routes. :Smile I'm just hopin' for good weather. I've been waiting for this all year.

WE'll just keep our fingers crossed.

Lonnie, do you feel your'e up to the long swim from shore? How do you like Mark's idea about reaching the buouy by diving? It certainly makes sense if 3'-5' waves are a sloshin'.

Re: the Mares Isotherm, try a ScubaPro 1mil steamer underneath. A skin doesn't provide warmth. If anyone wants to buy a semi-dry in excellent condition, size large, I will sell at a reasonable price. I now use a dry suit.
Yeah...we'll have to see how it looks I guess. I really hate long surface swims (who likes em' right) but yeah, it it's too bad we could always take a bearing to the buoy like Mark said and swim it just under the surface if we have to. I'd rather save the air if we can do it by surface though. You know, as much as I hate snorkels I may end up tucking mine in my belt just in case for the swim.

For the one that is looking for a short cut to Gilbert. Turn by the Holiday gas station in Two Harbors #2 N. take that till you hit 21 or 23 then follow till you get to 44 and go north to 16 take that west till you get to 53 head north to Gilbert
