Re:Superior, Maderia- Aug 24th
Wright, If the water is calm you can swim to the Maderia fairly easily. You need to park at the access road just north of the State Park entrance. You then must hike through the woods to the beach. It is a 10-15 minute surface swim to the buoy which is attached to the stern. Just decend. The bow is about 100 yds away toward the cliff(when you get there you will know what I mean). If the water is calm, you can see the outline of the ship approximately 50' below. You should plan you dive to about 80'. Its a faily easy dive with calm water. If you have waves then the surface swim becomes a challenge. I suggest two dives, one on the stern and one on the bow. Surface temp. now is about 60 degrees. I exect it will be pretty cold below 60 ft.

Does anyone know how far of a walk it is from the woods to the beach?

A family event has come up the weekend of the 24th so I won't be going to this event. Sad

I've heard it's quite a walk, rocky/hilly too... I'll do some digging on that one.

The walk isn't too bad. You could gear up at you car and walk through the woods but i think it is easier to make a couple of trips and gear up on the beach especially if you are diving two tanks. I guess it depends on the shape you are in.

I would be able to push a pulley through the woods with my dive equipment on it with no problem? Are we talking less than a 100 yards or more?

lwright, it is more than 100 yards. i would guess more like 300 yards. It is no big deal. Just evaluate it when you get there.
