Re: Department Training
Henn. SO new divers are doing diving in the narrows channel on sunday 11/25/07. they made 16 dives there last sat. the treasures that were found were beyond believe. does any one need some old bottles and cans or fishing lures?last sat was their first open water using dry suits and full face masks. we will be doing search patterns there on sunday. you have to take advantage off the open water while you can. they are doing a minium of 16 hrs a month diving.this is all water time. they put in 32 hrs each in sept.

Re: Department Training
Today we spent 8 hrs dirt diving. The first 2 hrs were spent in the classroom talking about gas laws and equipment used in lift bags and rigging, the rest of the day was used up practising rigging ATV, Snowmoblies, small vans and cars and trucks.
Some of the divers are not ice cert. but will know and be able to help set for recovery work, in the middle of this, we had a call of a man through the ice on lake calhoun. we were canceled about 10 mins later, thank you lord for small things.
Next class room and pool, we will work on underwater knot tieing and rigging. till next time have a safe and good one.

Re: Department Training
Its a lot of work to become a instructor. Naui makes a statement, would you allow this person to teach a loved one to dive?  and  dive safety through education.

Re: Department Training
Good Evening, Its been a very long day for this old man. We towed a Chrysler Minivan over to the pit this morning at about 0800 hrs for dive training and pushed it out on to the ice, the ice was about 18-24 inches thick.
We got it out 100 feet on to the pit, we had a safe in the back, we push the safe a little south of the van and cut a hole in the ice and sank it.
The van has a baby seat in the back with a small child doll in it. we left all the windows in the van. we took a lot of pictures of it as it sank.
Its in about 30-40 feet of water, vis is about 3-4 feet.
We used it for training today. next week another SO will be using it. On  first week of April another SO
will be using it.
when every one gets done we will start using lift bags and such. By fall we will be doing lifts and rolls using different size bags.
I hope no one punches the windows out before fall.
