It is possible to stop breathing without "holding your breath" . Using throat muscles to close off the lungs to hold your breath is bad. Using chest muscles to hold the chest cavity expanded is OK. But the few readings on skip breathing I have seen indicate it really doesn't do anything to reduce air consumption. Slow regular breathing is better.
