Deer camp 2007
My boy shot this eight point buck on Sunday of opening weekend.  He made the shot from between 150 and 180 yards with the deer on a Fast trot. 8)

He's gonna make you look bad!          Congrats, and hopefully you do as well!
Non-divers seem so,  well,  shallow.

Re: Deer camp 2007
real nice..mm'mm good!  what was he shootin?  243 maybe?  Except the cartidges on the stock look like they're for a cannon.. 7mm or something like that, '06?

I go tomorrow and this year actually have time to hunt.. don't have to shoot the 1st big one that shows up unless I'm freezing :Smile

my step son farms about a mile from here.. in a corn field he had north of his buildings he figures the yield loss was about $4000 from the deer feeding.. with all the computer stuff in the combines nowadays they can track yields very accurately.  He wants anyone to come and shoot does, fill up the back of the pickup.  There's a regular herd there.  They've been seeing a lot of nice bucks while bow hunting.. taking a doe would be tough.

I get a gratis license so I'm limited to where I can hunt, but I've got some great ground.

Re: Deer camp 2007

That corn fed venison is hard to beat. These deer were taken up north by itasca state park. Not quite as tasty ;D. At a $4000 loss I'd be shooting them with my m-14  >Big Grin. They have a good venison donation program this year. Have gun will travel  8)

He was shooting a 300 rem short action ultra mag.

Re: Deer camp 2007
well, thought I'd let you know how my season went too.. since I had time to hunt.. I didn't take the 1st nice buck I saw..  I took the second Wink.  Was done opening day. Not a huge deer but a fair 5x5.

I butchered it on sunday, along with some family that butchered their deer.. and the deer I got was unbelievable full of fat compared to the others.. over an inch thick at the rump and fat all they way around, and layers of it.  Just didn't get chased enough pre-season I suppose.  Have to go harrass them a bit before season next year.
