40 Fathoms Grotto
This is where I completed my current phase of dive training.  It is amazing, the history of the diving community that surrounds this particular location of the country.

The dive site doesn't look like much when you first get there, but then they turn the air  on and things clear up pretty nicely.  There is a lot of structure underneath there to look at cars, boat's ,ropes, platforms.  It's actually like an underwater obstacle course. :o.  Water temperature was about 68° visibility 50 to 75'.  Pretty dark down at  150.  I was actually the last candidate to dive at this location under the current ownership.  A commercial diving school is taking over the operation.

Same problem, can't get them small enough with all losing detail.

the duckweed actually helped the vis by choking out the algea.

Re: 40 Fathoms Grotto

Now would probably be a good time for us to pick some dates to go on the spear fishing trip ;D   bad news though grouper is going to be closed for most of February and part of March.  The best time for us to book it would probably be in April or May........

For a short-term fix I would be happy to lead an ice diving trip to the location of your choice..... it will have to be after a couple of weeks though as my gear probably won't be back until after the 21st. Sad

Looks very cool.  Is there a diveable cave system connected to this hole. Where is it located exactly?  Will the commercial school be allowing scubadiving or no? How did your class go?

Re: 40 Fathoms Grotto

There is a cave system in there but it's not really dove (from what I know...).  I think it's sidemount territory anyway.  I did a part of my Adv Nitrox/Deco class there...
I won't tell you what they charged me for an O2 Fill !!!!
It was just well , er , uh ...
Lets just say if I ever dive there again , I am not filling at 40 Fathoms.

Re: 40 Fathoms Grotto
Just an airfill was $25 :o or 12.50 for one. That's even high by mn standards!

Class passed with flying colors. First open book test I have taken  >Big Grin  The diving portion of the tests are always alot easier than the book stuff! But then again I do like to dive places more than I like to read about them  ;D

new website. It will still be open to divers.
