Re: ice dive millelacs 3-30-08

Good job on the pictures.  I was little preoccupied with equipment issues. Sad  a hole  in my zip gloves, and I didn't bring my backup wrist zips seals >Sad. We tried duct taping a plastic bag over the glove.  It lasted about five minutes.  I was trying a new backplate and wings and the inflater stuck on, disconnect that and use a dry suit inflater.  No problem with the exception of the really cold right hand. I was very happy to have the shelter set up when I got out.  Still managed about a 40 minute dive. I have made a call to the Minnesota historical society and a couple archaeological places.  I'm really curious to hear what they say about the "potential" artifact.

There is still time.  ;D

When we were driving off the lake, and I was blazing a new trail.  I decided to reach in the back and grab the pony bottle.  Just in case :o we should've taken the road back.

We need to add a few more to the core crew. We will be patiently waiting. It would be nice to set up two dive sites, with a few more people I am sure we can do it.

What we need is one of them trucks that dig the post holes for billboards. I can get in and out of a 36 inch hole. Smile

Hey guys, sounds like another great dive!  with some cool things found!

One of these days the stars will align, the moon will be in the right phase and the wife will let me take a day off of the many projects around my old house!  Or maybe I could just use Detectorguys idea and get her drunk then ask Wink

Re: ice dive millelacs 3-30-08
Just got done speaking with Ms. Pat Emerson of the Minnesota historical society.  I directed her to this web site, and she looked at the picture of the potential artifact.  She said it could be between 100 to 5000 years old.  I'm going to be cleaning it up and sending her some better pictures.  I explained to her where we found it and what we thought it was used for.  She said, that was an excellent theory and was very interested in seeing the piece.  She said, they have evidence very close to their call the Bradbury Brook site dating back 9000 years which is only 6 miles from our dive site.  She also said that the entire Mille Lacs Lake area is one big archaeological site.
-    pg 41   so even thousands of years ago people were losing ice choppers down the hole ;D

Some things don't ever change!

I heard you bought it on and dropped it down the hole while no one was looking  ;D  Just kidding.  Congrats on your awesome finds.  That's the reason I love to dive around here.  You never know what you'll bring up!

If you like Nate's find you got to ask Art about the ancient tablet he found.  >Big Grin
