Re: Need a new vehicle
I want one of those FJs.. especially since they used my initials for it.  must mean something.  I did a ton of homework recently on vehicles.. I was looking at (oh forbid, a full size old ford diesel pickup) something to put a snow plow on.. but after all my homework on pickups, and deciding to forgo the snow plow.. the subaru baja looked like just what I thought I needed..   and the review was actually pretty good concerning fuel mileage and such.
Cold and dark down there huh?

The Nitro works pretty well due to the fold flat rear and front passenger seat. It also has 3 power ports and a 110v outlet for charging your lights between dives. Not quite enough room to don your drysuit inside, but kind of nice standing under a lift gate when it is pouring rain.

How well for hauling extra gear for students or camp gear and a buddy?

The Nitro has enough towing capacity for a trailer big enough for a changing room!  Wink

Re: Need a new vehicle
well, since this post has been resurrected:  I recently test drove a transit connect.. I think I'd buy one in a heartbeat if they had a diesel or a bit more hp in the gas.. and a manual trans would help.  Traveling around other countries I have always noticed those little cargo vans and thought they'd be good.

Re: Need a new vehicle
Consumer reports provides pretty thorough information on recalls, reliability history on each vehicle, most vs. least reliable on class of car, etc.

Fred,
I've had the Ford dealer down to us to promote it. At first I thought "What a wimpie truck". But as I think about it, the size and volume of the truck seems right, but I agree about the hp's; especially with say 10 tanks, 150#'s of weight, plus whatever else gets tossed in.
