St. James Pit
Got in some nice dives up at St. James Pit today.  Viz was great up there as usual.  Had six of us in our group.  Jason should have some pics up in the next couple days.

Re: St. James Pit
Is there a better inland divesite in Minnesota right now?  Probably not.  It was fun to dive with such a large group of experienced divers.  With the new paved parking lot St. James is like a free Wazee with better viz.

Here's the dive group flying above the wall at -70 ft. 30++ viz.

Hey you guys this place looks dandy, curious where it is, getting sick of the poor vis in Cuyuna lately, and beyond 100' do you disappear into the darkess or is it more like Wazee 160' down. THANKS    T

It's on the edge of town in Aurora.  Check the Divesites tab.  It's listed on the map.

Re: St. James Pit
We were up there as they were running the vibrating packer in prep for the asphalt...you could feel the vibrations at 40'!

Last weekend was the best diving I've had all year...very very clear below 60'.  Tumbled a couple of huge rocks, and listened to them crash for 10 seconds or so...probably all the way down to 310'!

Someone said they saw fish on their fishfinder in over 200'...there are lake trout stocked in there....?

Re: St. James Pit
Yeah, Kirk showed up after our second dive and he said there are lots of fish over in the Northeast corner of the pit as there is a lot of cover over them to hang out in.  It's a long way over to that corner but Kirk has a scooter so he can cover the entire perimeter of the pit on one dive.  Must be nice!

                      THANKS Lonnie!
I appreciate it, do they allow boats of any kind on it? No sense towing the Impulse to do nothing more then help pack the asphalt.    T

Re: St. James Pit

Kirk mentioned yesterday how nice it was to be at 200ft and not need a light...  The vis was outstanding at 100ft yesterday. It was probably 40ft+ vis and it was a cloudy day. I have pictures at 70ft with a line of five divers where I can see the lead diver.  Best dives of the year by far.

St. James has a boat ramp and very nice paved parking area. I've never seen a boat on the lake so boat traffic isn't a concern.

Every once in a while you'll see a boat out there, so be sure to have a flag...

BTW...awesome pic...I feel as if I'm right behind you...
