Re: Ice (12/26 - 27)
I did a little research on water clarity of some "local lakes". The links behind each lake show historically what these lakes have had for viz between June and September in the past several years. Note that I would expect the Viz would about double under ice.

Green Lake in Isanti County:

East Rush Lake in Chisago County:

West Rush Lake in Chisago County:

Spectacle Lake in Isanti County:

Square Lake in Washington County:

Minnetonka Carsons Bay:

Minnetonka Grays Bay:

Minnetonka Lower Lake:

Calhoun in Hennepin County:

Mille Lacs Lake:

I'll accept local wisdom on this but with the new snow loading and the warm weather I don't expect the ice sheet to be in good condition. Ice charts say to factor x2 into weight if it's above freezing and with a foot of snow (wet in my parts). I don't think I trust the ice to drive on.

Re: Ice (12/26 - 27)

I was looking all around my house for some local wisdom and I didn't find any here. Shooter used to live on the lake and he would be that local wisdom. If not being able to drive on the ice is a deal breaker for tomorrow... I have sent a PM to Shooter and Arcflash showing a possible alternate site by Pine City.  John

Re: Ice (12/26 - 27)
I have snowshoes and a large sled so I can pull my gear a long ways if needed. I was just saying, I'm not going to drive on it. if others want to, I'll ride with them but I'm not risking my van.  It's not a deal breaker for me but then I have all day and am not disinclined to a little hard work. If AandA and Shooter can cut 33 inches of ice with a 20 inch chainsaw and still dive, I can pull my gear.

I'll pull my stuff 300 yards or so, it's flat after all. My sled is the large ice fishing tub so we can put 2 or 3 rigs in it if needed.

We need a time and a final muster station? Anyone want to commit? The only one I know I can pull is Green, I don't think it's more then 1000 feet from the ramp to the sand bar. DetectorGuy, I don't need that great of a site for the first dive of the season. Anything will do. Easy is good.

If your not real fussy the narrows channel is easy.

I guess it would be but can you trust ice in a channel?  My spider sense tells me it's not going to be your typical ice dive. Anything I need to consider diving a narrow in ice?

we were in the channel  3 weeks a go it had 4 inches of ice and you can dive it from shore.

It's getting late to still plan a dive for the morning. You all have my number so if you still want to do this call me on my cell.

Doug's out and I haven't heard from Carl or Dave for some time.

Maybe I'll call around at 9 or 10 and see if anyone wants to put something together.

Too bad but it happens.

Re: Ice (12/26 - 27)
I vote for meeting at East Rush Lake (Flickabirds Resort) at 8:30 AM tomorrow. Then, if the conditions arent just right, we can go up the road to the alternate site by Pine City. That Alternate site is a wildcard but we should be able to walk out on it and get as deep as we want right near shore.
