It doesn't mention if they put him in a deco chamber.  That may have prevented some of this..

Granted, he should've gone over to his buddy and they could've gone up together and shared some air..

Re: Diving Accident in Florida Keys
"U.S.S. Spiegel Grove about 135 feet deep,..."
"An ascent that should have taken 20 minutes only took about five."

So he was in deco.

135 to 60 = little over 1 minute
60 to 15 = about 2 minutes
Stop = 3 minutes
15 to 0 = about 1 minute

Total 7 to 8 minutes. (add all sorts of deep stop and it's still way off)

CDNN isn't reporting an accurate story.

Ask your doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

Re: Diving Accident in Florida Keys
The story is based off the divers remarks, which do not add up.  I highly doubt it took him 5 minutes to ascend.  Panic = he punched out.

Doubt he was on the bottom (134') for the ENTIRE time.  The NDL for 130' (as you all know) is about 9 minutes at 130'  IF - he was a 130' for 9 minutes, took "5 minutes" to ascend to the surface, he wouldn't have taken that big of a hit.

Again, he punched out.

Goaliemn - A buddy is someone to help you gear up, remind you how to get to the dive site, and buy a beer or two after a day of diving.  Don't "rely" on a buddy for air.  Even if you get to your buddy, you are not out of the water yet.....

Plan the dive and dive the plan.
