Lake Superior Two Harbors dive 7/29/12
About a half mile away from the breakwall is a huge outcropping of rock. Surface temp 71.5 degrees, 64 degrees at 80', viz around 35'.  An hour and a half later, the temp at 80' had dropped to a balmy 46 degrees, and viz was down to 18 feet or so, with a bit of a current.  Strange how this lake changes things up so quick!  Glad viz is improving in Lake Superior after that flooding!  Oh, and brought up around 40-45 lbs of lead downrigger weights!

Did you dive this via boat or shore? We saw the same huge temp swings up at the Madeira this weekend. First dive it was 66F at 80ft and second dive it dropped to 52F below 60ft with lower visibility at depth. It's hard to complain with those temps though because the safety stops are very comfortable.

Yeah, Jason...we were on a boat.  Sounds a lot like your experience on the Madeira.  It's crazy what can happen within a two hour period in Lake Superior...I've never experienced that great of a swing in conditions!  But it was nice utililzing my seldom used wetsuit, until I hit that thermocline!

I know a guy who might be interested in the down rigger weights. He is looking for 8lbers.
