Re: TRINITY'S 3rd annual 2012/2013 icing challenge
We all (Nate, John, Steve, Robert, Popo, Young Joe, Molly and I) went up to Millacs, and after blowing right past the Honey Badgers, as usual, to the point where I had to stop to look more closely at their sign, for directions, before John was officially presented as the wienner of the icing challenge. Course we did shame them on anchors again, Sat. our 6 to their 2, and another three today.
OK, have some time now,,all BS aside, was a dandy good time. Johns marked holes were mostly right on, with 3 of the 4 holes I cut, right on the edge of the fieldstone rock bed. (and not previously picked over as some G-men expected :-*) Vis was 30-40' weather was warm enough, the sun was out in the middle of the day Sat., and that made Nates plowed paths light up like a runway. Chow was plentiful and good, and the little wind dropped to nothing by the middle of the day. The toughest part was getting thru the measured 30" of ice, my 32" blade is only just over 29" of exposed chain, so had to cut a V shaped notch into the ice (and lift those pieces out) to allow the powerhead to get below the top edge of the ice a couple more inches. That made for a real wet cut, would of been handy to have a handsaw with, to finish off with. Steve did a fine job on John's winning plaque, (long overdue from the 1st icing challenge) it looked like a little block of ice, but it sure made me, and John smile.
