Crosby Update 5/18
Quick update from the Crosby pits. Some locals told us the ice was out just last week, throw in a bunch of rain and the vis wasn't great.

Visibility was 5-15ft and seemed to get better the deeper you went. Some pits were better than others. 53f water temp at the surface and 42f below the thermocline.

Typically how long after ice out do the pits clear up?

Depends on how much rain we get. Last couple years it didnt get good till later in the summer. But your right about it being better deeper, last couple years you had to get under 60ft to find good vis.

Yeah at a bare minimum a rainstorm will make the surface of a lake turbid for a few days... in bwca I was diving after it rained a few days and the top ten feet had like two feet of vis... crystal clear under that..

Hot and dry weather should clear it up fast. Id agree about a month .

Was up on Hopkins pit diving the diamond cove site today and got a very pleasant surprise when we hit 90'. Gin clear water down to the bottom at 140'. I've dove this site many times and never seen it this clear. Hope it lasts.
