just got back from a trip to the Bahamas...

dived with an older gent (60s) who had his
snorkel duct taped to the bottom of his fin.

i only used my snorkel when i did a wt check
but i dutifully kept it on my mask. it was
so wonderful when it twisted upside down and
began to pull off my mask in the current.

now, where is my duct tape?

Snorkel duct taped to the bottom of his fin?? I'm trying to picture that but my head is starting to hurt....

Re:snorkel (what is it good for?) - chrisw - 02-06-2003

it was shoved into one of the vent-like slit/holes
in a fin and taped down.

he also had duct tape "streamers" dangling off
both fins. when questioned he said the streamers
were to help other divers see his fins in low vis
situations.

also he said during deco stop the streamers
attract very tiny fish...which attract small fish...
which attract big fish...and when they come
its ok to surface.

*eyes roll* i think he was trying to hand me a bucket of chum...

Sounds like this guy has been around since the days of horsecollars etc...
(He sounds like a hoot!)

And how about that duct tape in low viz. Gotta try that in Square some day.
Maybe if I duct tape myself to my buddy....Hmmmm.....

Hope you had a blast!!!
See ya soon !!!!

it's not duct tape but I put a long piece of white vinyl tape (like electrical) down the middle of my long freedive fins for easier spotting by a buddy (for the rare occassion that I have one) I also do the trailing edge of the blade with vinyl tape, for vis too but mainly to keep it from shredding on the pool wall when I turn.

Best thing for vis on the fins is small glow lights taped to them, looks cool too, especially at night.

'Course I'm real partial to my snorkels too. Smile

So if you have running lights on your fins, I wonder how hard it would be to be able to vary them off and on. (Sorry , old computer programmer thinking here).
Like turn signals!!!
I wonder where we could put the brake light !!!

When I am teaching a class, and have to carry a snorkel by standards, I throw one of those Aqualung "Snap" snorkels in the right hand pocket of my drysuit. It rolls up into a neat little ball and doesn't bother me.

For wetsuit scuba, I stick it in the right-hand side of my waist strap and run my 7 foot hose around it instead of a light cansiter.

One other really neat way I saw a divemaster in Cozumel carry his was by putting the snorkel keeper around the tank strap of his bc. The snorkel was held tight up against the tank and didn't get in his way.

For tech dives I leave it home and for freedives I have it attached to the back of my mask strap- not the side where it causes too much drag.
