Re: Skip Work & Dive
Guess what season it is?????

SPRING

What happens in the spring?????

Well we saw lots and lots of crayfish happily engaged in in this spring activity.

We had great dives.  A nice rocky boulder strewn bottom comprised the structure.

Re: Skip Work & Dive
nice pics Art! Careful with the crayfish porn!

Man was that fun!  ??? Too bad we couldn't find THE spot! We spent hours looking (and truck jumping pressure ridges!) by the way Art, How's the neck? I was unfamiliar with the reef and didn't know how big it was! :o

It sure was a bi#*h setting up with an 18" bar. It can be done. I will need to start physical training a couple weeks prior to the next one!  YOU GOTTA WANT IT was the theme for the day.

Quick Pic

Please note the location of the safety screw.  This was not done so much for safety as it was to expand our search radius. ;D "was very prudent "

Chainsaw isn't worth it!
you need to swap that puny little chainsaw for one of the manual pole saws and an ice auger!  even though the saws are hand-powered, I think they're easier than all that mess!  fire up the auger, drill a hole in the middle, then drill the corners, then saw between the holes to make more manageable hunks and haul them out (can screw-in an ice screw to help get a handle on the chunks)

I'm bummed that I haven't gotten out to join you guys this winter!  (but also relieved to avoid the embarassment of trying to stuff my fat belly into my drysuit!  I REALLY need to work on getting back into better shape!)

despite all the work, it's still FUN ain't it?!?
Some people are like Slinkeys - not much good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs!

Re: Skip & Dive

We didn't have an auger :'( , but we did have art's pole saw that we used on the last 6-8". Before we used Smith Diving's saw that has an 30"+ bar :o. We then use ice screws and the hydraulic ram on the plow to get the ice out. We had a last minute communication snafu as to the location of the sacred saw :Smile

As far as getting into shape this kind of workout really help's 8) and yes it is still fun! Sometimes the greater the challenge the more fun it is to overcome all odds(one nut saw ;D) and make it happen. Both Art and I had our doubts if we were going to make the dive. We never spoke about it until on the way home! Ah, the power of positive thinking.........

Shooter, Art,
great pictures.  I admire your tenacity. What the heck are you sculpturing.  I haven't seen that design in Ron's ice book or anyone elses for that matter.  We should consider putting it into our new book!

Art, it was good talking to you a couple of weeks ago.  I'm so happy for your getting you Instructors ticket soon.

But us gov guys think of a letter and a number when the chain saw's not working

C 4      boom.       new ice hole.
;D  Shooter.   call me when you get a chance.  I've got some more news.
