Re: ice dive millelacs 3-30-08
Yea  Wink
At first I thought the tablet was terra cotta.  But....Steve with his knowledge of geology determined that it was in fact stone.  It was the ancient writing on the stone tablet that confused all of us.  After each of us looked at it, none of us had any idea what the faint symbols and writing were.  Steve suggested I keep it, clean it up, and possibly use it as a writing slate.  I thought only a FOOL would do that, so of course I placed it back in the lake  :Smile  It occured to me this morning that it might have been  some type of ancient calendar.

Very cool.  I'm interested to hear what they have to say about it.  I think I'm going to have to try ice diving next year.  I really need a winter hobby.  :Smile

Looks like you already have the gear! You are welcome to join us anytime. We can always another person. I think it is the best diving in mn for local lakes. We usually average 10-20' of vis in lakes that in the summertime have 2-3' of vis.

Re: ice dive millelacs 3-30-08
Sad turns out, I found a very uniquely shaped rock. After the historical society examined the close-up pictures that I sent them, that was the overall determination.  Sad the rock maintains its coarse, exterior through all. They said had it been actually shaped in used for a tool, it would've been smoothed in the areas that were ground. They did say is that it could have been used as a tool by somebody else who found the uniquely shaped rock.  I think that was just to make me feel better, though :-\

Re: ice dive millelacs 3-30-08
tie a stick to it, and this weekend use it to chop another dive hole... then drop it in and have somebody else "find" it and then you'll be able to prove to them that it's an ice chopper!!!

sure looks like a spearhead or chisel to me...
Some people are like Slinkeys - not much good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs!
