Sorry fellas, just got back home.  Had a grand old time shoveling the slush from the driveway.  Can't make it tomorrow.  I hope the ice conditions are decent for you.

Ok, Rush lake it is. I have to pack, I didn't think this was going to happen but I'll load some gear and meet you at Flickabirds (site is down) at 8:30.
Ask your doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

Re: Ice (12/26 - 27)
Good Morning everybody! I just wanted to give everyone one last invite to go swimming this morning. There is only one more inch of snow on the ground since yesterday. That shoveling at your house can wait until tomorrow. We are going to be at East Rush Lake at 8:30.

Re: Ice (12/26 - 27)
Hey Steve, wasn't really paying attention to the chatter on this post, sorry I couldn't make it today, but I am open now. I don't need much notice since my gear is packed and the chainsaw is ready, just give me a call the night before if possible.

Re: Ice (12/26 - 27)
Arcflash and I had a great time diving today. We started out towards East Rush Lake. When I got there, I followed a fisherman with my jeep about 50 yards behind his Dodge Dakota. I went out about 500 yards and I noticed that his back wheels looked like they were breaking through the ice. I stopped and got out to investigate the trail. Water was bubbling up in his tire tracks about 2" high above the surrounding water. I got creeped out and did a hasty U-turn and high tailed it for shore. I called Arcflash and told him to head to Green Lake instead. I called Shooter and left a message, telling him the change of plans. It was so nice out that we didn't set up the shelter. We had a couple fishermen come by early on and tons of fishermen swarmed in on us at the end. I forgot my dive light in the jeep on shore so I went back to get it. I drove the Jeep out to the dive hole and got some strange looks from some of the fishermen as no one was driving vehicles on that lake yet.

Arcflash dove first and he scored 2 anchors on the first dive. Then I dove and I found 2 ice dippers and a really old ice spud or some kind of logging pike. Arcflash called it "Captain Ahab's harpoon". it was about 6' long, the handle was wood kinda shaped like a 5' long baseball bat, and the metal head was about a foot long with a metal ring around the wood handle (probably to keep the wood from splitting) I took some photos of it but the camera was wet/froze/fogged so the pictures did not turn out that good. (I will take some better pictures of it later). I told the wife that I am going to put it on the wall as a piece of artwork. She rolled her eyes and said "Puh-Leeeease". That younger generation doesn't appreciate the finer things in life.

Then I found the old wood boat. It was about 14' to 16' long and about 5' wide. It had wood ribs and it was in pretty bad shape. It had large rocks in it so it may have been scuttled for a fishing crib. There were a lot of lures on it and miles of monofiliment/steel leaders/spyder wire. I pulled one big red and white lure off it. I took about 2 minutes of video but the still photos did not turn out as the flash lit all the particles in the water. The vis throughout the day was about 6' to 7'.

Arcflash dove again and found 3 more anchors and he checked out the boat too.

Here is a link to the video of the boat:

Here are some foggy photos of the loot:
