Ice Out Poll

Re:Ice Out Poll
Checked out Square and Perch on Saturday. Open water about 1-2 feet off shore on Square. Perch still looks quite solid but it is turning quite dark. I saw someone under the ice at Square by the dock off the County Park site. They had a line tied off to the dock.

Thanks...Jean Smile

Re:Ice Out Poll
I have a very large pond in my backyard. Every spring we have 2 trumpeter swans that stay for a few days. This year they came in On Friday Night. It was funny to watch them walk across the ice to feed in the open water on my side of the pond. They would walk about 20' and then "PLOP" they would break through the ice, and then repeat. My ice should be gone today or tomorrow.

PS. Trumpeter Swans are really big!

Re:Ice Out Poll
Drove around Prior Lake yesterday, 4/13, and the ice was out. Lots of boats on the road, I saw 6 boats on the lake and counted 15 trailers at the public launch off of Cty Rd 18... with a high of 87F today in Mpls, if the ice near you isn't out, it will be soon!

Re:Ice Out Poll
I called MSD up in Brainerd and their feeling is that all the ice should be gone off the lakes and the mine pits up there by this weekend (19th). The ice is retreating and turning quite black on most of the lakes up there as of this morning (14th).

Thanks...Jean Smile

Re:Ice Out Poll
And another chunk of good news from startribune.com dated April 14th:

Here's another sign of spring -- the ice is out on Lake Minnetonka and White Bear Lake.
A woman who checks White Bear Lake for ice cover declared it ice-free just before midnight Saturday.
And a man who has a team of spotters checking for ice around Lake Minnetonka declared that lake ice-free on Saturday afternoon.
The average date for ice-out on Lake Minnetonka is April 15.

On both lakes, ice-out is declared when it's possible to get to any point on shore from any other point by boat.
