The mines are open pits -- not cave systems. They offer the best inland diving in the region. Personally I think the mines up by Biwabik (Lake Mine, St. James) are the best in MN. I have seen tunnels/shafts in some of the mine pits. Don't go into these cave-like structures. There is nothing to see. You could die.
